quote for the weekend

"A photograph is a given and a construct, mapping the logic of display. Only by interestingly applying what we know, do art and science have a chance to restructure our perception of this world."

50 Marketing Ideas for Freelancers

A helpful post I found on freelanceswitch:

"As a freelancer, you have a wide variety of marketing options available to you. Just which ones will bring you the clients you prefer to work with depends — it’s important to make sure that the methods you use allow you to reach the places prospective clients will be.

It’s worth considering a wide variety of options. For that, it’s useful to have a list of options to consult:

1. Start a blog
2. Go to Chamber of Commerce events and other local business events
3. Release products (icons, articles, etc.) that can be used for free with attribution
4. Hand out business cards
5. Guest post on blogs relevant to your skills
6. Attend meetups in your area"

photoshop x180

open doc - crop - zoom - brightness // levels - magicwand - feather - copy - new doc - paste - save - next doc... repeat 180+ times for the masks at moca... I've repeated so many times I'm starting to dream it and everything I look at in the world I wonder how I would crop it from the background.

Thinking with Type

Finished reading a great book: Thinking with Type by Lupton. An extremely comprehensive and resourceful book for graphic designers. Here are a few excerpts I enjoyed:

"The impatience of the digital reader arises from culture, not from essential character of display technologies. Users of websites have different expectations than users of print. They expect to feel "productive" not contemplative. They expect to be in search mode, not processing mode. ... The cultural habits of the screen are driving changes in design for print while at the same time affirming print's role as a place where extended reading can still occur."

"Whereas talking flows in a single direction, writing occupies space as well as time."
